It's almost my birthday, a day that I often lose in the busyness of building up and taking down for the holiday season in my house. But this Saturday I'm turning 36, and for the first time in my life I feel a little rumble in my tummy when I say the number out loud.
Okay, to be honest, that rumble is a little louder than it should be right now, due to the additional anxiety of this book publishing thing!
So, even though 36 isn't exactly a milestone number, I've decided I want to do something that will make an impact, even if it's a small one.
You may remember when I wrote about my experience at the ONE Campaign AYA Summit, I mentioned what I learned about human sex trafficking during the panel discussion with Cindy McCain.
That particular presentation really stuck with me. Another fact that I learned outside of the summit is one that literally crosses my mind every day.
Superbowl Sunday is the day of the highest human sex trafficking activity in the United States.
That tidbit makes my stomach turn to the point where I'm going to have a hard time enjoying this year's game as much as I used to.
The International Justice Mission is a global team of attorneys, investigators, social workers, community activists and other professionals who work to protect the poor from violence in over 20 communities throughout Africa, Latin America and Asia. They are also one of the ONE Campaign's global partners and actively work to remove girls from trafficking situations.
I'm asking you for a birthday gift this year. Help me raise $536 in 36 hours for my 36th birthday on behalf of the International Justice Mission. It would mean the world to me. In order to give, just click here.
